Gemma & Delfi’s happiness: “Never tired after a victory, and now we’re already thinking about the next challenge”

Three titles out of four for Triay-Brea in a sparkling start to the season. A new partnership that works perfectly, as confirmed by the two players in the press conference after their triumph over Sanchez-Josemaria in the final of the motorola razr Miami Premier Padel P1, although their next goal – the top of the world rankings – is never even mentioned. Delfi hides it, but her smile says it all: “What’s the next step for us? It’s just around the corner, next week in Santiago. In a few days, we have another tournament we’ll be participating in, but for now, we’ll relax for a couple of days and enjoy the win, we’ve earned a bit of rest. I’m never tired after winning finals, rather when I lose them: I’m a very ambitious player, I want to improve quickly through working with my teammate.” Gemma confirms it immediately: “Our next challenge is always the competition we’re participating in, nothing more. Otherwise, we risk losing focus on what we’re working on.”

However, the path they’ve chosen is the right one, according to both of them: “We’ve worked so hard to achieve all of this. We knew we could play well together, we’re just at the beginning of the season, and we’d love to play even more matches to find a better harmony between us. We’ve built a way of working together where each of us knows exactly what to do to improve the team. We were confident that the partnership would work, but of course, we didn’t have proof of that before the season started.” Gemma emphasizes the secret to the partnership: “We need to stay focused on every ball to be truly effective, with no lapses,” and then explains what happened in a disappointing first set, which was lost clearly before their winning comeback in the second and third sets.

“At the beginning, we made too many mistakes, too many unforced errors kept us from developing our game – continues Gemma – Then we adjusted the strategy, with better lobs, deeper and higher, and we put them under pressure. Even our coach told us, we needed to improve the lob to keep them away and get closer to the net. In the first set, we didn’t manage it, we suffered two breaks too quickly, and then going head-to-head with them is really tough.” Finally, a nod to the choice of Miami as the venue for the Premier Padel P1: “We had a really nice and fun week, so close to the American audience. I believe padel is going to become very popular here, it’s just a matter of time. The growth is evident every day,” concludes Delfi with a smile.
