Day 2, Part II: Tello-Libaak, winning start. Rematch against Yanguas-Nieto tomorrow

The second day of the motorola razr Miami Premier Padel P1 kicked off in style. The No. 13 seed duo, Argentine players Juan Tello and Tino Libaak—a partnership formed just a few months ago—imposed their strength on Rico-Gutierrez, who put up a brave fight. In the end, it was a 7-5 6-3 victory for Tello-Libaak in 1 hour and 20 minutes, largely thanks to their impressive 72% of points won on serve, without ever conceding a break. The winners will now face Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto, the tournament’s No. 4 seeds, in a highly anticipated rematch following their defeat in the Riyadh P1 semifinal earlier this season.

RUIZ-CHOZAS, WHAT A BATTLE Spectacular action also took place on Court 1, where Alex Ruiz and Alex Chozas battled through three sets to defeat Cepero-Torre. The latter managed to stage a comeback in a match that seemed all but over in the second set—first trailing 4-1 and then fighting back in the tiebreak from 5-1 down for Ruiz-Chozas. Their double comeback forced a third set, which remained balanced until 2-1, when Cepero called for medical attention due to a minor injury. He continued playing, but upon resumption, he lost serve at 3-1, a decisive turning point in the match. The final score in the deciding set: 6-2.

Three sets were also needed for Javi Ruiz and José Diestro to overcome Mouriño-Fernandez 6-2 4-6 6-3. On their second match point at 5-3 in the third set, a winning attack by Diestro sealed the victory. Meanwhile, the No. 11 seed, Leal-Gutierrez, secured a two-set win over Rubio-Lijo (7-5 6-2), with the key factors being their ability to convert break points and their strong first-serve percentage (76%).

DI NENNO-GARRIDO, NARROW ESCAPE The tournament also saw two of its biggest names in action—Di Nenno and Garrido, the highest-seeded duo playing on Day 2. On the “Juan y Bela” court, they faced off against Spaniards Moya-Rico. After dropping the first set, the Argentine and Spaniard showed their class and consistency, particularly Martin, who celebrated his 28th birthday in the best possible way. Their comeback spanned two sets, ultimately securing a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory. The final set remained tight until the seventh game, where a crucial break for Di Nenno-Garrido made the difference. It wasn’t easy—Miami is proving to be a top-tier competition right from the opening rounds.
