First time in the USA for Agritelley and Di Francesco: ‘Padel in the U.S. is growing, and the ‘gringos’ are here to stay!’. Tonight, match against Bautista-Guerrero

The American Clash. That’s how the story was told, with a specially crafted image for social media and the web, featuring the four American players wearing their national team jerseys as they geared up for their historic first appearance in a Premier Padel main draw, in Miami P1. On one side, Vinny Di Francesco and Nico Agritelley; on the other, cousins Matias and Aaron Segura. Friends and teammates in the national squad, they experienced a moment to remember and the pride of representing the USA in the world’s most prestigious professional padel circuit.

It ended in two sets, with Agritelley and Di Francesco claiming victory (6-3, 6-4), and a wave of support and celebration flooded social media. From posts featuring the classic U.S. national anthem to videos recorded in front of TV screens, from the traditional “Congrats” to the patriotic “Proud of you,” the excitement was undeniable. A quick scroll through the Instagram accounts of the four players was enough to see how much padel is growing in the U.S., thanks in part to the work of the USPA, the American federation, in close collaboration with the FIP, the International Padel Federation. The USPA itself marked the occasion on its social media channels, declaring, “History was made in Miami”, and inviting American padel fans to fill the stands at the Juan y Bela tonight (second match of the evening session, starting at 6 p.m. ET).

The all-American showdown was intense, despite finishing in straight sets, and in the end, the celebration belonged to Di Francesco, the brightest emerging talent in American padel, and Nico Agritelley, who, just moments after sealing the win, ran to the stands to celebrate with his family and his beloved dog, Chicken Nugget. Then came the emotions and the feeling of having lived a dream. “Competing on a stage as prestigious as Premier Padel Miami is an incredible honor, and I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity. Representing the United States at such a high level is a privilege, and it’s a testament to how much padel is growing in our country. This tournament is a chance to show the world that the USA is here to compete, and we’re ready to make a serious impact on the global padel scene”, said Nico Agritelley.

Now, the duo faces a tough challenge ahead—tournament No. 12 seeds Fran Guerrero and Jairo Bautista, winners of the CUPRA FIP Finals and ranked No. 21 and 22 in the FIP rankings, respectively. But why worry about the opponents when you’re living the dream? “It’s going to be an electric match, and I can’t wait to step onto the court and put on a show. Padel is growing rapidly in the U.S., and this is our chance to prove that the ‘gringos’ are here to stay!”, said Nico Agritelley in his joyful battle cry.
